I am planning my next exhaust system and have always thought it would be kind of cool to have one of these. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who has one, so: How long do they last? How well they seal? Are there any performance losses with it closed vs. not having one at all? Do you use it very often or do you forget it is on there? Which one do you have?
For any of you that just want to see what they are like:

I always wanted a GTO (Holden Import era) fitted with a cut-out. I don't know why, but I thought it needed one.

I had one. It froze up so I just put the blockoff plate on there. It was a cheap one anyway. Get a good quality cutout and you won't be sorry. I plan on redoing the exhaust later when I go turbo, so that's why I'm waiting to replace it.

yup 100% stock exterior. Now mind you this doesn't make it any faster, but it sure sounds a lot cooler haha.

I'll put my 2 cents in. In a week or so I will heading to a muffler shop with one of these. An exhaust cut-out that manual. Personally I don't need or want the option to switch it often. I DD'd a car with the mufflers hacked off for 2 years. I just want the option to go back to stock if needed, and I won't have to worry about anything breaking.

I'd be careful with electronic cut-outs as they do tend to fail. But depending on the manufacturer, some will replace them under warranty without question.
Depending on the car as well, they may not help (or even hurt) power.
